[The feed kicks in to the sound of a man clearing his throat. He seems a little unsure of what he's about to say.]
Hullo, hullo. Welcome newcomers.
[Man, what a classy intro that was. So smooth, Joseph!]
For those of y'that I haven't met, my name is Joe. I man the kitchen here and I'm the one that put together the shit-awful feast you had on your first night here.
M'sorry fer that. At the time I was short staffed, unprepared and tired as fock. The good news, is that I've caught up on my beauty sleep and whatever I make from here on in sure as hell won't suck quite so bad.
Y'can find me in the kitchens more often than not, otherwise, try the bar or out by the lake. If any of you have any cookin' experience or want to help out, I'd more than welcome it. The more help I get, the better yer food is gonna be.
[Silence falls while Joe runs over what he's just said.]
Right. I think that's about it. Come say hello or somethin'.
[Fin.]

[Audio]
Name's Alex .. I'll be 'round shortly.
[And off he goes, letting his senses do the leading to the kitchen. Once there, he looks around, giving a knock on the doorway.]
Hello? Anyone here? Joe?
Commentlog! :D
Coulda sworn you were...
[A guy.]
That's be me. [He offers a hand to shake.]
Commentlog
And he appreciates you trying, Joe, but your confusion is unavoidably transparent. That doesn't mean Alex doesn't find the common mistake terribly adorable. :3
Lifting a hand in greeting, Alex moves to pull his hair over one shoulder, making his way over to Joe with the soft click of heels on stone. He might just be getting ready to work in the kitchen, but dammit he was going to look good doing so. Reaching Joe, Alex accepts the proffered hand with a smooth smile, giving it a solid shake.]
Alex. Pleasure to meet you.
[His smile is wide and warm as he meets the gaze of the Keep cook, finally releasing his hand. You just a bit more confused, Joe?]
This your kitchen, mm?
[He looks around the kitchen with bright, interested eyes. What he sees seems to please him greatly.]
I'd have killed for this much room back home..
Commentlog
Aye, it's a beauty ain't it? Done a lot of work on it. M'pretty pleased with how it's comin' together.
[He looks to Alex.]
You cook, then?
Commentlog
You can tell you've put the work and heart into it. It's absolutely gorgeous in here; so spacious!
[And the wereleopard means ever word of it.]
You can tell when someone really loves something. Like this place .. Right at home in here, mm?
[Then it's Joe's turn to ask questions and Alex nods again.]
Yeah, I've been cooking with my dad since I was nine or ten .. Been cooking on my own since I was seventeen. [A casual shrug, lips still quirked into a smile.] Being away from home puts the proverbial bee in the bonnet. I've picked up a lot from the television and have managed to kill not a single person with my cooking yet.
[He does hope the jest in that is fairly obvious.]
Commentlog
Sounds like you started out the same way I did. Me Ma was sick so I used to take care of things and help her out in the kitchen while my idiot brother ran amok.
[The mention of his brother is most affectionate.]
After that I got into a few things I shouldn't have, did some time for it, busted out and went military and then ended up back in the kitchen. It's weird how things run a circle.
Commentlog
Older brother or younger?
[And then his head tilts slightly to the side, hair falling from his shoulder to hang loose behind his back again. He doesn't look horrified or suddenly dubious.
Alex actually takes the whole jail confession pretty lightly.]
Military, mm? Well, good for you .. God knows what would have happened to me if I'd ever joined. [He shudders to think about it. No, really .. The number of people suddenly signing up for the military increased exponentially after the Great Unveiling. Shifters and vamps and everything in between in a big hurry to show how helpful they'd be to AMERICA.
Yeah .. No. Not for Alex, who's biggest violent uprising came once a month in a manner completely out of his own hands or control.
He shakes off the thought, a smile tugging his lips once again, shifting his weight absently so one hip juts out.]
It's a pretty small world in the end .. Well, worlds, I guess ..
[His lips purse slightly at the sudden reminder that there were much bigger things happening here.]
It's nice to be able to do what you like, at any rate. I'd be more than happy to do whatever you need of me .. Plenty of free time on my hands, it would seem.
Commentlog
[Joe smiles. Damn he misses Sean.]
Military time wasn't quite my choice to make but it's said and done and a story for another day.
[He turns his attention to the kitchen, scanning the room and motioning to the main bench.]
That there's my work zone. I'd appreciate it if you ask before borrowin' from it. My knives are like my kids. Other than that, I'll give ya free reign. Oh, cept fer the jam cupboard. It's a bit of a bitch to sort out if it gets messed up. Dinner is the main meal, otherwise people are free to do as they want with whatever I throw out for the rest of food time.
Commentlog
[And he would have, too. There were certainly things to be said for being an only child and his parents were always supportive and he never really felt 'wanting', but still .. Having a sibling to lean on might have made his own infection with lycanthropy easier to deal with.
He nods when Joe moves away from the military conversation, knowing well how to take a hint, and lets the subject drop. He follows Joe's gaze around the kitchen, making mental note of the things that the cook would prefer left alone.]
So, I should avoid using the knives as mini saws, eh?
[His tone is thick with teasing, eyes flashing with amusement. After a moment, Alex folds his arms and purses his lips, eying Joe.]
Anything you've been missing from your own home? A special something I can whip up for you? I enjoy a challenge ..
[Even if he had no idea if Joe even came from a place remotely similar to Earth, the offer would be followed through.]
Commentlog
[He smiles a bit and shrugs his shoulders. Joe hasn't given up on seeing his brother again.]
You laugh about the knife rule, but believe me, it's there for a reason. A guy I know tried to cut down a tree with one of my meat cleavers. I might of been a little bit pissed with him fer that.
[Caleb you jerk. Joe still can't believe his friend did that.]
You want to make somethin' now? I was contemplatin' apple pie before you walked in. Ever made it?
Commentlog
The quip about the knives earns Joe a sympathetic grimace, echoed with a laugh of amusement.]
Oh, God .. Seriously??
[He shakes his head, amazed and amused in the same instance. Then his face brightens, a warm smile curling his lips as his eyes light up.]
Baking I can do.
[Hell, baking was a preference! You are speaking his language, Joe! Prepare to be wowed!]
You want to show me what's where and we'll see if I can manage to not burn the place down?
[He winks, blue-green eyes not looking the least bit serious.]
Commentlog
[The confrontation had ended in fisticuffs, but when it came to Joe and Caleb, most interaction ended that way.]
Right then, I'll give ye the tour.
[And he's off, pointing out shelves and cupboards and explaining which dishes live where, where the cutlery is and all the other bits and bots a kitchen like this one has. What might interest Alex, is that while the room is medieval like the rest of the Keep, against one of the walls stands a rather large refrigerator plugged into a power outlet.]
Cool room is over here. Just watch the door. If it shuts you in, y'can't open it from the inside.
Commentlog
That last warning gets a pointed look at the cool room. That warning might not be something that everyone would want to know, but it might prove to be important. Never know when you might need to secure something or someone for a time.]
Good to know .. that would ..well .. suck doesn't begin to even go there.
[He then points to the fridge, curiosity coloring his tone.]
That's run by electricity, yes? Anything else around here that has power piped in?
Commentlog
There's a few things around like it, I think. I dunno really. I've grown kinda accustomed to livin' without electricity that his is a bit of a prize.
[He rolls his shoulders and motions to an empty space on the counter.]
I'm thinkin' a microwave next, assumin' I can convince Deior. Y'don't know how much work it took to get the fridge.
Commentlog
I can see the merits of adding a microwave to the arsenal .. Lord knows, you don't really think about how handy something is until you can't use it anymore.
I can imagine you might get used to having no power when there isn't any .. Do you know if things we brought work here? Like computers and the like? Or do they kinda go kaput once we show up?
Commentlog - hello my name is xhan and i fail :D
[Joe smirks and shrugs.]
No internet or signal or anythin' of the sort though. None of that kinda thing will work.
Commentlog - HI XHAN!! :D
I can live without the Internet so long as I have my music collection. Wouldn't have even thought it possible, so believe me I'm thrilled. There any specific place I'll find ports?
[Because if he had to plug in here, he'd do it, but Joe might no appreciate his musical tastes and he'd rather not subject him if that be the case.]
Commentlog
[Sorry Alex, Joe isn't aware of your musical tastes just yet.]
What kinda tunes do y'listen to? I think there's ports in the games room as well if this one is off limits.
Commentlog
I'd appreciate that, Joe.
[He laughs at the next question, giving a half shrug.]
A little bit of everything .. metal over to show tunes and classical orchestra pieces. I have a few thousand songs on my iPod, so there's sure to be something I won't chase you out of the kitchen with.
[Hands shove into his pockets and his pops a hip.]
You have a preference?
Commentlog
It takes a lot to get on my nerve when it comes to music. I listen to pretty much anything.
[He pauses and frowns.]
Just none of that techno crap that's the exact same beat on repeat for ten minutes.
Commentlog
There was a day once .. a few years back,a that I actually really enjoyed that stuff. If it wasn't so prominent in the shows I walk, I'd avoid it altogether .. I think I have some Oakenfold and maybe some Moby .. that's about the extent of trance on my iPod .. Don't have too much rap, either..
[It's Alex's turn to shrug with a laugh.]
There's only so much about 'bitches' 'blunts' and 'cop killin'' I can take.
Commentlog
[Joe smiles a bit and nods to Alex.]
What do you mean, shows you walk?
Commentlog
At the last question, though, Alex's face brightens. The boy loves his job, have no doubt!]
Fashion shows .. I'm a model.
[He takes a moment to strike a bit of a ridiculous pose, exaggerated for the sake of amusement.]
